Students orientation at UNITE Unyama Campus

Gulu, Uganda – September 1, 2025 – UNITE Unyama Campus has officially welcomed its newly admitted students during a comprehensive orientation program designed to prepare them for academic and personal success. The event brought together campus leadership, administrators, and lecturers, who shared words of guidance, motivation, and encouragement to help learners begin their higher education journey with confidence.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Pario Lot Ewaku, Campus Dean, urged students to familiarize themselves with the Office of the Academic Registrar, the central office for handling admissions and academic records. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding tuition fees until students are guided on payment through the official system using a Payment Registration Number (PRN). He further assured the freshers that all campus services would be accessible even before tuition fees are paid.

Addressing accommodation, Mr. Ewaku informed students that they could choose between residing in the campus hostel or seeking safe housing outside the campus. He encouraged them to focus on their studies to attain the highest academic qualifications, citing his own journey from a Grade V teacher’s certificate to his current pursuit of a PhD in Educational Management and Administration as an example of what determination and persistence can achieve.

Dr. Sarah Bunoti inspired the new students by sharing her academic journey, beginning with a Grade III certificate and progressing to higher levels of education. She emphasized that learners would undergo an orientation module to help them adjust to campus life and highlighted that strong academic performance, especially in degree programs, opens doors to wider career opportunities.

Adding academic guidance, Dr. Nathaniel Mayengo, a lecturer at Kyambogo University with 25 years of teaching experience and a PhD in Psychology, spoke about grading and the classification of awards at the university level. Using analogies on maturity and growth, he reminded students that “real men and women” in academia are those who strive for excellence. Dr. Mayengo explained the university’s grading system, noting that a First Class (Upper) is awarded to students with a GPA between 4.40 and 5.0. A Second Class (Upper) is given to those who score between 3.60 and 4.39, while a Second Class (Lower) falls within the GPA range of 2.80 to 3.59. Students who obtain a GPA between 2.0 and 2.79 are awarded a Pass. He advised students to remain consistent, read diligently, avoid absenteeism, and stay focused if they wish to graduate with top honors.
