Google Pushes Reset Button on Android Gaming Experience
In a bold move set to redefine mobile gaming, Google has overhauled Play Games profiles turning what was once a simple gaming ID into a powerful hub for connection, competition, and community.
Google is preparing to roll out a significant
overhaul to its Play Games service, a move the tech giant says will transform
how Android users experience mobile gaming.
From September 23,
updated gamer profiles will begin appearing on Google Play, showcasing
individual gaming statistics, milestones, and new social features. The changes,
announced in emails sent to users, aim to make gaming on Android more
integrated and interactive.
“Your profile will
include your gaming stats and milestones from games you’ve installed from
Google Play and new social features,” Google explained in its communication.
“Your profile and related features will soon show up right on Google Play so
it’s easier to access all of our gaming offerings.”
The update will also
see Google collect more data on how users engage with games including which
titles they play and for how long. The company insists this will help refine
the experience while giving developers more insights into player behaviour.
As with the current
system, developers will still have access to profile information, in-game
activity, and purchase history to enhance their products. “Developers may also
send data to Google about your activity in their games, such as your
achievements and game progress,” the company said.
Google has stressed
that the transition will be seamless, with no action required from users.
Existing privacy settings will remain in place, and users will continue to have
the option of deleting their Play Games profile or even their entire Google
account.
The revamp reflects
Google’s ongoing effort to strengthen its presence in the booming global gaming
industry, where competition for player attention and engagement has never been
fiercer.
