Be the Change Drivers: UNITE Bursar Inspires New Students at Unyama Campus
Teaching is not just a job it is a calling to shape the future," declared UNITE Bursar, Dr. Isa Sebowa, as he urged new students at Unyama Campus to become drivers of change in Uganda and beyond.
Gulu,
August 27, 2025 – The Institute
Bursar (IA) of the Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE), Dr.
Isa Sebowa, has warmly welcomed newly admitted students at the Unyama
Campus, urging them to embrace teaching as a calling and to take full advantage
of their professional training journey.
In
his address to the fresh cohort, Dr. Sebowa encouraged students to
develop and maintain reflective journals and portfolios, stressing their
importance as tools for growth, evidence, and research. He noted that uploading
their orientation experiences and learning reflections would help them preserve
valuable insights for the long term.
“Reflective
journals allow you to record your actions, your lecturers’ actions, and the
learning process. These will not only guide your professional journey but also
serve as a basis for future research,” he explained.
Dr.
Sebowa urged students not to
approach teaching merely as a source of employment or personal pride, but to
see it as a higher calling and a platform for national and global
transformation. He emphasized UNITE’s mission to produce teachers of difference
who are able to address the underlying challenges facing education in Uganda
and beyond.
“At
UNITE, we are committed to training teachers who make a difference. In the
future, education systems will demand quality, and only those who uphold the
highest standards will thrive,” he added.
He
also encouraged students to complete their programs and pursue further studies,
reinforcing the institute’s vision of developing reflective, research-oriented,
and transformative educators.
Dr.
Sebowa concluded by challenging the
new entrants to become drivers of change, carrying forward UNITE’s vision of
reshaping teaching and contributing meaningfully to Uganda, Africa, and the
wider world.
